Ghana's Embassy in Saudi Arabia is processing 800 illegal Ghanaian migrants there for deportation following the expiration of an amnesty granted illegal residents to leave or be sanctioned.
Details of the amnesty, which was published by YEN.com.gh, indicates that all migrants living illegally in the Gulf State would be subjected to massive prosecutions including jail sentences.
Receiving the news, the minister of foreign affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway revealed ton the floor of parliament that government is putting measures in place to subsidize the air tickets of these deported fellows. The deportation of these illegal Ghanaian immigrants follows a stern warning to the ambassador of Qatar to Ghana by President Nana Addo over the maltreatment of Ghanaians in the Gulf States.
So far, the foreign affairs ministry has ordered all persons living illegally across the globe to return home or risk losing government’s protection. Meanwhile, the deportation by these persons from the
Gulf State follow past deportations of Ghanaians from America – a development which the US embassy in Ghana is bound to escalate in the coming days following the introduction of strict immigration policies by the Trump administration
